Bible Verses for Stress Relief — 12 Calming Psalms

Can you really use Bible verses for stress relief?

I believe you can, at least to some extent. But first, you need to give proper attention to …

Where Stress Comes From

Stress is a part of life, and it comes at us from all directions.

Our jobs …

The commute to our jobs …

Our spouses …

Our kids …

The bills …

Even social media, for Heaven’s sake!

And if you don’t take care of yourself and take the time to deflate that big stress balloon that’s growing in your chest, the results can be disastrous.

The Dangers of Stress

Consider just a few of the maladies — physical and spiritual — associated with unabated stress:

  • High blood pressure
  • Heart disease
  • Diabetes
  • Obesity
  • Depression
  • Anxiety
  • Anger
  • Irritability

And the list goes on basically forever.

Fighting Stress

So … how can you combat stress?

Well, you can’t do it on your own, that’s for sure.

If you’re under a lot of stress and feeling like you can’t pull yourself out, you should definitely talk about with your loved ones and, especially, your doctor.

But you can also be proactive in taking care of your health by destressing on the regular through the word of God.

There are literally hundreds of bible verses that are perfect for helping with stress relief, and we will cover many of them in this series of articles.

For now, let’s start with a dozen gems from Psalms that should have you breathing easier in no time.

12 Bible Verses for Stress Relief (Psalms)

Psalm 16:8

I keep my eyes always on the Lord.
With him at my right hand, I will not be shaken.

Psalm 23:4

Even though I walk
    through the darkest valley,
I will fear no evil,
    for you are with me;
your rod and your staff,
    they comfort me.

Psalm 27:1-3

The Lord is my light and my salvation—
    whom shall I fear?
The Lord is the stronghold of my life—
    of whom shall I be afraid?
When the wicked advance against me
    to devour me,
it is my enemies and my foes
    who will stumble and fall.
Though an army besiege me,
    my heart will not fear;
though war break out against me,
    even then I will be confident.

Psalm 34:1-10

I will extol the Lord at all times;
    his praise will always be on my lips.
I will glory in the Lord;
    let the afflicted hear and rejoice.
Glorify the Lord with me;
    let us exalt his name together.
I sought the Lord, and he answered me;
    he delivered me from all my fears.
Those who look to him are radiant;
    their faces are never covered with shame.
This poor man called, and the Lord heard him;
    he saved him out of all his troubles.
The angel of the Lord encamps around those who fear him,
    and he delivers them.
Taste and see that the Lord is good;
    blessed is the one who takes refuge in him.
Fear the Lord, you his holy people,
    for those who fear him lack nothing.
The lions may grow weak and hungry,
    but those who seek the Lord lack no good thing.

Psalm 37:5

Commit your way to the Lord;
    trust in him and he will do this:

Psalm 46:1

    listen to my prayer.

    I call as my heart grows faint;
    lead me to the rock that is higher than I.
For you have been my refuge,
    a strong tower against the foe.

Psalm 91:2

You are my refuge and my fortress, my God, in whom I trust.

When anxiety was great within me,
    your consolation brought me joy.

he brought me into a spacious place.
The Lord is with me; I will not be afraid.
What can mere mortals do to me?
